The Second Time

Alberto Sajevo, a university teacher in Turin, comes across Lisa in the street one day: the woman who years earlier shot him in the head in an attempt to kill him and was sentenced to thirty years. Lisa is now on a semi-open regime, leaving the prison during the day and returning in the evening, and she does not recognise him. Alberto recognises her at once but says nothing; he begins to follow her and then to spend time beside her. What he wants is to understand why she did it, and he knows he can only learn that by asking her. Mimmo Calopresti’s seventy seven minute Italian film was inspired by a book by Sergio Lenci; Nanni Moretti plays Alberto and Valeria Bruni Tedeschi plays Lisa. It was completed in 1995, and Bruni Tedeschi won the David di Donatello for best actress for the role.
