What The Secret Agent's Blunder Is About
In the spring of 1961 the KGB learns that an experienced intelligence officer has been dropped onto Soviet territory. He is Mikhail Zarokov, the son of a Russian emigre count, with international experience and knowledge picked up in a great many operations. His task is difficult and dangerous, tied directly to the nuclear industrial complex, and he has to get what he gathers out of the country. The film is the first of a series built around the same character over the following years, and putting an agent from the other side at the centre was unusual for its time. Georgi Zhzhyonov plays the lead in Venyamin Dorman’s hundred and thirty four minute film, completed in 1968.
