The Secret Fury

The wedding of Ellen and David is stopped by a stranger who says the bride is already married to someone else. Ellen denies it flatly, but the papers the man produces force the claim to be investigated. The couple go to the small coastal town where the first wedding is said to have taken place, and the accounts of the people they meet there all confirm one another; before long the woman begins to doubt her own mind. The story thus shows less a mystery than how one person’s reality can be dismantled by others. In Mel Ferrer’s eighty five minute American film, Claudette Colbert plays Ellen and Robert Ryan plays David, with Jane Cowl and Paul Kelly in the cast. It was completed in 1950.
