In mid nineteen-sixties South Carolina, a fourteen year old white girl who holds herself responsible for her mother's death runs away and takes refuge with three Black sisters who keep bees. The film is set just after the Voting Rights Act and does not leave that in the background; what happens to one of the sisters is its hardest passage.
