The Silver Fleet

The Netherlands is under German occupation. Jaap van Leyden owns a shipyard. He is also its chief engineer. The Germans want him to build ships for them. If he takes the work he will be building submarines. There is another side to accepting. The local workers would keep their jobs. Leyden takes the commission. The people around him take him for a collaborator. Then a new submarine goes into the water. It is called U107 and it goes out on its first trial. During the trial the vessel is seized by a Dutch crew. The course is turned towards England. The film was inspired by a real event. Ralph Richardson and Googie Withers appear in the eighty four minute film, a British production Vernon Sewell and Gordon Wellesley finished in 1943.
