The Son of a Thousand Men

Crisóstomo, a fisherman who has reached forty, wants one thing: a son. In the coastal town where he lives without getting close to anyone he meets Camilo, a boy with nobody, and takes him in. Then Isaura, fleeing her own pain, and Antonino, a young man the town does not understand, join the same house. Daniel Rezende adapted Valter Hugo Mãe's novel, the first of the author's books to be filmed. The story speaks in the language of fable but what it builds is not one: the cruelties everyone in the town knows and covers over become visible only once these four stand together. Rodrigo Santoro plays Crisóstomo. It went out on Netflix in 2025. Who it is for: viewers who like Brazilian drama and stories of chosen family. Who it is not for: anyone expecting realism, since the film speaks deliberately from inside a fable.
