The Sound of Belgium

The documentary tells of electronic music in Belgium. At the centre is the New Beat movement. It came out at the end of the eighties. It spread across the dance floors in no time. It began to be heard abroad as well. It is counted among the forerunners of house music. The documentary asks where it came from. It looks for the answer much further back. It goes as far as the Battle of Waterloo. It looks at the years after the First World War too. It ties all that to the country’s search for an identity. The records and the clubs of the period are described. Cisco Ferreira is among those speaking too. The account gathers around the end of the eighties. Joey Beltram and Eddy Declercq appear in the eighty five minute documentary, with Nikkie Van Lierop also taking part, a Belgian production Jozef Deville finished in 2012.
