What Scream, Queen! My Nightmare on Elm Street Is About
Scream, Queen! My Nightmare on Elm Street, co-directed by Roman Chimienti and Tyler Jensen, examines the legacy of A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge (1985) and the life of its lead actor Mark Patton. The film premiered at the Cleveland International Film Festival on April 5, 2019. It documents how screenwriter David Chaskin denied for years that the film's gay subtext was intentional before later admitting it was, and how Patton, after being outed as gay, left Hollywood and disappeared from public life for years before eventually running a small art shop in Mexico. Who it's for: anyone curious about an actor confronting the screenwriter of a horror film that derailed his career, thirty years later. Who it's not for: viewers wanting just horror film clips, since this is more of a personal reckoning story.
