The State Counsellor

General Khrapov is killed on a train from St Petersburg to Moscow. The killer introduced himself as Fandorin, which makes Erast Petrovich Fandorin the first suspect. The initials BG on the handle of the knife belong to a terrorist organisation that has both capitals frightened. Fandorin joins the investigation to clear his name, but this time a famous detective, General Pozharsky, is not beside him but against him. Filipp Yankovsky's film is the third adapted from Boris Akunin's Fandorin novels, with Oleg Menshikov as Fandorin and Nikita Mikhalkov as Pozharsky. It is about the murky ground between the state, the revolutionaries and the police in late nineteenth-century Russia.
