What The Student of Prague Is About
The events take place in Prague in the eighteen sixties. Balduin is the best swordsman in the city. He is a student and well liked. He has a friendly rivalry with his friend Dahl. Both of them admire Lydia, the innkeeper’s niece. One evening her birthday is celebrated at the inn. Just then the opera singer Julia Stella comes in. Balduin is taken with her at once. She already has a protector, though. Baron Waldis is rich and showy. A poor student stands no chance. Then Doctor Carpis steps in. The man offers help and the price of it is heavy. Balduin begins to live alongside his own reflection. Anton Walbrook and Dorothea Wieck appear in the eighty seven minute film, a German production Arthur Robison finished in 1935.
