Cecilie Skog W Wilco Van Rooijen What The Summit Is About
The Summit chronicles the 2008 K2 disaster, in which eleven climbers died within roughly 48 hours, blending real archival footage with dramatized reenactments. The two are sometimes woven together without a clear line between them, which became one of the most common criticisms leveled at the film by reviewers. It was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival and won the World Cinema Documentary Editing Award. Who it's for: anyone drawn to mountaineering disaster stories and harrowing eyewitness accounts. Who it's not for: viewers who need a clear line between documentary footage and reenactment, since the film blurs that boundary at times.
