The Ten Commandments: The Movie

The film covers the stretch from Moses growing up in the Egyptian court to the parting of the Red Sea and the tablets at Sinai. Alexandre Avancini drew it out of the series of the same name broadcast by Record in 2015, adding scenes unused on television and a different close. The telling keeps the rhythm of the series, with short scenes and music running constantly. The visual effects, and the sea in particular, are where the money went. The reviews were harsh and the common objection was that compressing a hundred and seventy-six episodes into two hours produces something disjointed even for viewers of the show. Even so it passed 116 million reais in Brazil and became one of the country's highest-grossing domestic films. Who it is for: anyone who watched the series and viewers who like biblical adaptation. Who it is not for: anyone looking for film language, since this never leaves the television template.
