What The Tree Is About

A family in the Australian countryside: Peter dies suddenly and Dawn is left alone with four children. Eight-year-old Simone will not accept it and believes her father lives on in the huge fig tree beside the house, speaking to her through its leaves. As the tree grows it pushes its roots into the house, the pipes, the foundations, and it will have to come down. Simone will not allow that. The film is not telling a supernatural story; it never settles whether the tree speaks and leaves the matter inside the grief. Charlotte Gainsbourg plays the mother.
