What The Ultimate Playlist of Noise Is About
Marcus, a high school senior obsessed with sound, learns that the brain surgery he has to undergo will take his hearing completely. In the middle of something he has no say over, he invents a job for himself: to record, one by one, every sound he most loves hearing, right up to the day of the operation. The list starts with simple things, and then the recorder pulls Marcus out of the house, onto the road and into the company of people he does not know. Bennett Lasseter is not fishing for pity; the film is less about the loss itself than about deciding what to do before it arrives. It neither declares deafness a catastrophe nor offers an easy consolation. Keean Johnson plays Marcus, with Madeline Brewer in the cast.
