The Unbroken

Onchi works for an airline and had been head of its labour union. For that he was sent for years to distant postings in Asia and Africa. After ten years he is ordered back to head office. But the return brings no relief; the struggle inside the company goes on. Then an aircraft of that same company is involved in the worst air disaster in Japanese history. Onchi is assigned to the families of those who died. What he does is both sit with people in mourning and handle the question of restitution. The film tells the rot inside a company and one man’s resistance to it together. Ken Watanabe takes the lead in Setsuro Wakamatsu’s Japanese film of 2009, three hours and twenty two minutes long.
