What Snow on The Blades Is About
At the Sakurada Gate in 1860 the shogun’s chief minister and his bodyguards are ambushed and killed. The responsibility and the shame for that failure fall on Shimura Kingo, master swordsman and chief of the guard. He is forbidden to atone by taking his own life and is set instead to hunting down the assassins who got away. Years pass, one man is left, and Kingo stays on his trail for thirteen years. But Japan has changed; carrying a sword has been outlawed, the order he served is gone, and it is no longer clear to whom the duty is owed. Kiichi Nakai and Hiroshi Abe appear in Setsuro Wakamatsu’s hundred and twenty minute Japanese film, completed in 2014.
