The Unseeable

Siam, 1934. Nualchan is pregnant and looking for her missing husband. The trail leads her to a mansion in the countryside. The house belongs to a widow named Runjuan, who takes her in, but the rules of the place are odd: certain rooms are not entered, nobody goes outside at night, nobody approaches the mistress of the house unbidden. At night Nualchan starts hearing things, and seeing people who should not be there. What comes out is a story older than the question of where her husband is. Wisit Sasanatieng directs, out of Thai horror cinema. Ninety-seven minutes. It builds its fear not from sudden noises but from the order of the house itself, and the whole matter is that something left in the past is still standing there.
