What The Waiting List Is About
A run down bus station in rural Cuba. The queue of waiting passengers keeps getting longer because every bus that passes is already full. The only hope is the station's own bus being repaired, and that never quite happens. Meanwhile the people waiting start to know each other: Emilio, a young engineer, falls for a woman on her way to meet her Spanish fiancé, and the others carry a blind passenger to the head of the line. Then the one bus breaks down too and nobody can leave. That is the point at which Juan Carlos Tabío's film steps out of realism. The comedy of waiting and a quiet comment on how things work in Cuba run side by side.
