What The War at Home Is About

Jeremy is back from Vietnam and has been living in the same house as his family for two years. He does not sleep, does not work, tells nobody anything. His parents want to see the son they had and never mention what happened. At Thanksgiving dinner the silence at the table breaks and everyone has to speak for the first time. Emilio Estevez both directed the film and played the lead; Kathy Bates and Martin Sheen play his parents. Sheen and Estevez are father and son in real life as well. The telling does not show the war; everything happens inside the house, at the dinner table. The film does not resolve the trauma and does not let the family off lightly either.
