A Mongolian historical action film. Khutulun was the daughter of Kaidu Khan and descended from Genghis; history remembers her as the princess nobody could beat at wrestling, who refused to marry any man who could not throw her. The film follows her fight to recover a sacred text called the Golden Sutra. Her father Kaidu was Kublai Khan's rival, and accounts that confuse the two are common. The horse and wrestling sequences shot on the steppe are its strength. The story runs to a template, legend and history mixed, with the woman at the centre as the real point.
