What The Wedding Plan Is About

Michal is thirty-two. She became religious twelve years ago and is only now getting married. A month before the wedding, in the middle of settling the catering, the groom says he has changed his mind. Michal does not cancel. The hall stands, the dress stands, the flat stands; God will provide the groom. For a month she goes on being matched, sits down with candidates and tells each of them the same thing. The people around her take it for stubbornness. For her the point is not the marriage but being able to want what she wants. Rama Burshtein directs the Israeli film; a hundred and ten minutes, with Noa Koler as Michal. The director comes from inside the Orthodox Jewish community, and her films describe it from within rather than from outside.
