What The Winners Is About
Yan is a bank clerk who does everything by the book and is regarded by his colleagues as a crank for exactly that reason. When his branch is picked to host a police robbery drill, he volunteers to play the robber, and then plays it far more seriously than anyone expected, until the exercise turns into something nobody scheduled. Miao Yu’s first feature is adapted from a Japanese novel by Kunihiko Miyakoi. The comedy comes from a simple inversion: a man taking his assignment more seriously than the people who set it, and thereby making everyone around him uncomfortable, including the officers who wrote the rules. Dong Chengpeng plays Yan.
