The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf

Young Vesemir becomes a witcher to escape poverty: a mutated fighter who kills monsters for money. He likes the work and likes the money more. Then a monster nobody has seen before appears in a politically strained kingdom and he has to face his own past. The film is about how Geralt's mentor became that man. Kwang Il Han directed from a screenplay by Beau DeMayo, based on Andrzej Sapkowski's Witcher books. StudioMir, known for The Legend of Korra and Voltron, made the animation. It runs 81 minutes and went out on Netflix on 23 August 2021. The reviews were broadly positive and the animation drew most of the praise. One found it better than Netflix's live-action series: scarier, more focused and feeling like a world that exists. Against that, the pace was called too fast and the lore given too little room. Who it is for: people who know the Witcher world and like adult animation. Who it is not for: anyone starting the series here. The film does not explain its background and assumes what the show established.
