KONOSUBA - God's blessing on this wonderful world! Legend of Crimson

A Japanese animated film from a series. The narrative is set in a fantasy country that resembles a game. Kazuma arrived here after dying; the party with him is a goddess, a wizard and a knight, and all three are useless in their own way. In this part they travel to the wizard's home town. Megumin's family is there and there is a problem in the village: something sealed is about to wake. From there the film is a journey and a siege. On the road there is trouble with money, trouble finding lodging, and the party quarrelling among themselves. The humour runs the series' known road: none of the characters is a hero, everyone thinks of their own interest, and even the strongest attack flattens the person who uses it. The side line is family: Megumin's house, her family's poverty and her relationship with her sister are the warmest part. There is a large battle in the last section and the series raises its scale for the first time. What the narrative is interested in is not adventure but the party: the film is not about a quest but about four people putting up with each other. The source is Natsume Akatsuki's novel series. Takaomi Kanasaki directed. It did well at the Japanese box office and the series continued afterwards. Who it is for: anyone who has watched the series and likes fantasy parody. Who it is not for: anyone starting here; the characters are not introduced and most of the jokes rest on earlier episodes.
