The Woman Who Drinks

A woman in the last days of her life looks back over her past. What she looks at is the years spent drinking. A whole period, starting from her youth, comes into the account. Something that happened when she was forty six cost her everything she had. The film builds this not as a story of falling but as a way of remembering. Loneliness and ageing are the second strand of the account. The addiction is neither blamed nor excused; the film gives it as the course of a life rather than as a choice. The account is built out of what she goes back to. The ninety one minutes are spread across a life. Élise Guilbault and Luc Picard appear in Bernard Émond’s Canadian film of 2001.
