The World According to Ion B.

The documentary draws the portrait of a man called Ion Barladeanu. For twenty years he lived on the street, quite literally at the edge of a rubbish tip, and in that time he painted and made collages. According to the film that work is now exhibited alongside pieces by Andy Warhol and Marcel Duchamp. The account does not present this turn as a fairy tale; it shows his life before he was known and what happened to him after he was known from the same distance. How much space lies between the art world discovering someone and that person’s life improving is the film’s real question. Alexander Nanau’s sixty minute Romanian documentary was completed in 2009.
