Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru

There are robberies on the highway. Houses are broken into at midnight, families are killed, and nobody is caught. The method is the same each time; the gang arrives, finishes the work and disappears. Theeran is a young police inspector. He takes the file and looks at the map: the incidents are in different states and no unit knows about the others. He puts a team together. The trail leads north, into another state. The gang hides inside a nomadic community. Catching them means staying in that region for months and nobody helps. H. Vinoth directs. Karthi plays Theeran; Rakul Preet Singh, Abhimanyu Singh and Bose Venkat are in the cast. The language is Tamil. Its ground is real; a long investigation by the Tamil Nadu police is the starting point and the events rest on the case files. The film shows the method of the investigation in detail; maps, telephone records and field work are at the centre. The matter it treats is the lack of coordination; because states do not share information the gang goes uncaught for years. The narrative does not leave the hero alone; the team's work is visible inside it. The action is sparse and kept realistic. The film did well at the Tamil box office and was counted among the good examples of its kind. The narrative keeps the romantic line short and does not let it break the plot. Its limit is length; the narrative is long, the last section drops the pace, and the ending is conventional. Who it is for: viewers who like Tamil crime films and narratives drawn from real case files. Who it is not for: it is long, hard, and the ending where expected.
