Things Unspoken

An Italian drama. Two couples set off together. Carlo and Elisa have been together a long time; the relationship continues but both are tired. Their friends Anna and Paolo come along, and a young girl. The aim is less a holiday than a fresh start: if they change place, perhaps something will right itself. The journey does not give them that. Shared dinners, the same hotel rooms and long hours on the road bring unspoken things to the surface: unexpressed wishes, something left in the past, and everyone's own share of silence. What the narrative is interested in is not betrayal or separation but how little two people say to each other after a long time together. The shape is an ensemble; the camera moves from one couple to the other and the same event appears through different eyes. The source is a novel by Delia Ephron. The adaptation moves the events to Italy. It was shot in Rome and in Tangier, in Morocco. Stefano Accorsi, Miriam Leone, Claudio Santamaria and Carolina Crescentini are in the cast. The music is by Paolo Buonvino; the closing song was made with Mahmood. Gabriele Muccino directed and co-wrote. The film opened in January 2026 and did well at the Italian box office. Who it is not for: anyone looking for calm; Muccino has his characters argue loudly and the pace stays tense throughout.
