What Thiruvilayadal Is About

The story draws on the tales of Hindu belief. The sage Narada brings a mango. At the end of a contest the god Shiva gives the fruit to his elder son. The younger son Muruga takes offence at this. Hurt by his father, he leaves home. He sets out towards Palani. On the way he meets Avvaiyar, one of his devotees. She tries to persuade him to go back. Muruga will not change his mind. Then his mother Parvati arrives. To calm her son she tells him stories. Those stories are of four of Shiva’s divine games. The film turns in this way into tales inside a tale. Sivaji Ganesan, Savitri and Nagesh appear in the hundred and fifty four minute film, an Indian production A. P. Nagarajan finished in 1965.
