This Is My Father

The schoolteacher Kieran Johnson learns that what he was told about his father was not true. He had been led to believe his father was a French sailor. In fact the man was an Irish farmer. Kieran goes to his mother for an answer, but she will not talk. So he travels to Ireland and follows the trail of an old story there. The account moves between two times, the search now and what happened half a century before. Why a family kept the thing it kept sits at the centre of the story. Aidan Quinn and James Caan take the leads, with Stephen Rea and John Cusack also in the cast. Paul Quinn’s hundred and nineteen minute film, a joint Canadian and Irish production, was completed in 1999.
