This Summer Feeling

Sasha dies suddenly, leaving her partner Lawrence and her sister Zoé behind. Mikhaël Hers builds the film across three summers in three cities, Berlin, Paris and New York. Grief is treated not as a crisis but as a recurring season: people work, move house, fall in love and periodically return to the person they lost. Anders Danielsen Lie's Lawrence almost never externalises the pain, and the film declines to speak on his behalf. The camera records summer light, open windows and empty afternoons, and it is in that ordinariness that the absence is most visible. The music is sparse and the silences are long. Who it is for: viewers who like French films that build atmosphere instead of incident and treat grief quietly. Who it is not for: anyone waiting for dramatic resolution, since nothing here is untangled, only outlasted.
