What Titina Is About
Umberto Nobile, an Italian airship engineer, is living quietly with Titina, the dog he took in off the streets of Rome, when the Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen turns up and orders an airship capable of reaching the North Pole. Nobile brings the dog. That flight, made in 1926 on the airship Norge, really happened, and Titina really was on it. Kajsa Naess's 2022 animation is less interested in whether the expedition succeeded than in what came after it: two men unable to share the credit or the fame. Seen from beside a dog, claims of heroism shrink a little. Period footage is threaded through the animation.
