To All the Boys: Always and Forever

To All the Boys: Always and Forever (2021) closes the trilogy. Lara Jean and Peter are together and settled; the question now is college. The same school or different cities, and whether a promise made at seventeen is supposed to bind the rest of your life. Michael Fimognari shot the first two films as cinematographer and moved into the director's chair for the third. That accounts for the visual continuity across the series: the same eye and the same sense of colour, doing a different job. It includes sequences filmed in Seoul and New York, and Lara Jean's trip to Korea is the most concrete the series ever gets about her mother's background. It runs 114 minutes. Good for: finishing the trilogy, gentle low conflict romance, and stories about the end of school. Less good for: the freshness of the first film is gone, the dramatic stakes are low, and nobody here has to think about money. Do not start the series with this one.
