Armando Brancia What To Forget Venice Is About
Nicky and Anna, brother and sister, come together again at their childhood home in the Venetian countryside. With them are Anna’s lover Claudia and Nicky’s partner Picchio; the four plan to spend a Sunday together, and then fate intervenes. The film does not build the return as a trip into nostalgia; the house brings back what had been put away. The account does not explain the relationships and does not label anyone, leaving them as they are. Childhood memories and present conditions overlap in the same rooms. It is one of the few works of Italian cinema of 1979 to take up these subjects openly. Mariangela Melato and Erland Josephson appear in Franco Brusati’s hundred and ten minute Italian film, completed in 1979.
