What To Hell and Back: The Kane Hodder Story Is About
Kane Hodder is the stuntman who played Jason Voorhees in four Friday the 13th films. Derek Dennis Herbert's documentary takes the mask off and looks at the man under it: a childhood in Nevada full of bullying, then a fire stunt that went wrong in 1977. Hodder came out of that with third degree burns over half his body and spent more than four months in hospital. Years of stunt work followed, and eventually one of the best known killers in American cinema. Bruce Campbell, Robert Englund and Cassandra Peterson are among the genre figures who speak here, but the centre of gravity is not horror. It is what a person does with his own body and his own past.
