To the Last Limit

Viktor Dremov, a former boxer and a former convict, is trying to put his life right and start again. But when he comes back his old girlfriend is about to marry someone else. The local gang takes his car and starts pressing him to work for them. When he refuses he is framed and hunted. The film shows how far crime had got into daily life in the Soviet Union in its final years. His past as a boxer is no advantage here; it leaves him both unprotected and easy for others to make use of. The film also shows that the door back to an ordinary life was closed to him before he even reached it. Evgeniy Sidikhin plays the lead in Nikolai Stambula’s hundred and seven minute film, completed in 1991.
