Tony Arzenta

Tony Arzenta is the mob's best hitman in Milan and he wants out. The bosses do not allow it; instead they put a bomb in a car. The bomb kills not Tony but his wife and small son. What follows is a one-man reckoning: Tony sets out to find everyone who gave the order, one at a time. Duccio Tessari works within the shapes of 1970s Italian crime cinema, but Alain Delon's coldness sets the film apart from the genre. Delon plays a man who takes no pleasure in revenge and simply finishes the job, and the camera does not make a hero of him. The chase sequences, moving between Milan, Copenhagen and Sicily, are among the best-shot of the period. Richard Conte, Roger Hanin, Carla Gravina and Marc Porel are in the cast. The film is also known as Big Guns. Who it's for: Viewers who like Italian poliziottesco, 1970s revenge narratives, and Alain Delon. Who it's not for: Women are almost absent from the narrative and the violence becomes continuous. The ending is also predictable.
