What Topaze Is About
An honest and unworldly science teacher is dismissed from his school because he will not compromise. Consoling himself in his laboratory, he stumbles on a formula for a health tonic. An unscrupulous rich man hires him to market the drink, and in time the teacher becomes as dishonest as the businessmen around him. It is adapted from Marcel Pagnol's 1928 play, with Ben Hecht on the screenplay and David O. Selznick producing. John Barrymore leads, with Myrna Loy opposite him. It was the first RKO film to play at Radio City Music Hall and it took the National Board of Review award for best film in 1933.
