What Tortured for Christ Is About
The film dramatises the testimony of the Romanian pastor Richard Wurmbrand. Wurmbrand was held in prison, kept in solitary confinement and tortured. He wrote what he had been through in a book in 1967, and it was read in many countries. The work was made for the fiftieth year of that book. It was shot entirely in Romania, including in the very prison where he was held. The account moves not by interview but by actors playing it out. The dialogue is in English, Romanian and Russian. The film was produced by the organisation Wurmbrand founded, and the view it takes is that organisation’s own. John Grooters’s film, seventy seven minutes long, was completed in 2018.
