Treasure Island

An old pirate called Billy Bones takes a room at an inn. The inn is the Admiral Benbow. Young Jim Hawkins works there. An old sea chart turns up in the man’s chest. The chart marks an island. Buried on that island is a pirate’s treasure. Jim takes the chart to Doctor Livesey and Squire Trelawney. A ship is fitted out. Captain Smollett commands her. The ship’s cook John Silver joins the crew. He carries a talking parrot on his shoulder. The longer the voyage runs the clearer the cook’s purpose becomes. Who is loyal to whom stops being certain. By the time the island appears the treasure is no longer the point. Soviet cinema made three versions of the Stevenson novel and this is the second. Aare Laanemets and Algimantas Masiulis appear in the eighty two minute film, a Soviet production Yevgeni Fridman finished in 1971.
