Tu Hai Mera Sunday

Milind Dhaimade's 2017 Indian film follows five friends looking for somewhere to play football in Mumbai. The beaches are crowded, the pitches closed, and every week they have to find a new place. The film builds that search as a question about the city. All five have troubles of their own; work, family and relationships sit inside the narrative, and Sunday is the only time they can breathe. The narrative produces no large event. The tone is light, the humour everyday and there is no violence; the crowding of Mumbai is constantly felt in the image. The cast is largely unknown. Who it's for: those who like quiet Indian urban comedy. Who it's not for: viewers expecting dense plotting; the film is built on everyday flow.
