What Tumbleweeds Is About
William S. Hart plays a cowboy trying to claim land in the Cherokee Strip run of 1893. Hardened by years on the trail, he falls for a woman, but before he can settle anywhere he has to deal with men who want him harmed. It was Hart’s last film, and is said to have influenced Cimarron in 1931. When Astor Pictures reissued it in 1939, Hart, then seventy-five, added an eight-minute address at the front about his career and the old West; it is the only recording of him on film with his voice.
