What Two Billion Hearts Is About
The documentary is about the World Cup held in the United States. The camera moves between the supporters in the stadiums and in the streets and the players on the pitch, and the condition of fans arriving from twenty four countries takes up as much room as the tournament itself. The film was made as the official tournament film and includes the best moments of the matches. The account does not give football as a list of results but as the experience of a crowd. That choice is both the film’s strength and its limit: no critical view is sought. Murilo Salles’s hundred and six minute documentary was completed in 1995.
