What Two Years Before the Mast Is About
The year is 1834. Charles Stewart is the son of a wealthy family. His father owns ships. Charles lives as he pleases. One night he is forced aboard a ship. The ship is the Pilgrim. It belongs to his father’s company. He sets out without knowing it. The voyage is long and hard. Discipline aboard is severe. The captain is Francis Thompson, with Amazeen as his first mate. One of the crew is Richard Henry Dana, and the film takes its title from Dana’s book. Alan Ladd, Brian Donlevy, William Bendix and Howard Da Silva appear in the ninety eight minute film, an American production John Farrow finished in 1946.
