What Un millón en la basura Is About
Pepe is a street sweeper who stands in one of the most invisible places in society; he is a man without a name inside the crew that cleans the streets at dawn. One day he finds a million in the rubbish. Poverty whispers to him to keep it, but his wife tells him to do what is right and give the money back. What follows stops being a test of honesty and turns into the story of how the people around him treat him. The film tells this as comedy, but what is laughed at is not Pepe. The account uses the money not as an opportunity but as a test that brings out the real faces of people. Jose Luis Lopez Vazquez plays the lead in Jose Maria Forque’s ninety minute Spanish film, completed in 1967.
