What Unconscious Is About

Barcelona, 1913. Alma is pregnant; her husband Léon, a psychoanalyst, disappears one day. She decides to find him and takes her sister's husband Salvador along. They have one lead: Léon's patient files. Following the files they track down four of his patients in the city one by one. Each of them describes something it was forbidden to discuss at the time. The pair end up inside a murder investigation and, at the same time, open up what their own families have been hiding. Joaquín Oristrell directs this Spanish film of a hundred minutes, with Leonor Watling as Alma and Luis Tosar as Salvador. It treats the years when Freud's ideas were first spreading across Europe as comedy: a time when speaking about sex at all was the scandal.
