Underground: The Julian Assange Story

Melbourne, 1989. A young Julian Assange, not yet twenty, goes by Mendax online. With two friends he forms a group called the International Subversives. Using the home computers of the day, they get inside some of the most closely guarded institutions in the world. They think of themselves as white hat hackers: they look but do not steal. The United States government sees it differently, and treats these boys as a matter of national security. Robert Connolly directs, with Callan McAuliffe as the young Assange, Rachel Griffiths as his mother and Anthony LaPaglia as the policeman on his trail. It looks at the years long before WikiLeaks. What it is about is not politics but a curiosity that grew without ever leaving the house.
