Anna, in her forties and estranged from her husband, joins a friend's family holiday in Tuscany. She starts spending her time with the young people rather than the adults her own age, and the unclear closeness between her and one young man upsets the balance of the trip. Joanna Hogg wrote and directed her first film. Kathryn Worth plays Anna. Tom Hiddleston, as the young man, is in his first feature. Hogg's method is established here and continues through everything she has made since: fixed camera, long takes, no music and largely improvised dialogue.
