Vaazha II

The four friends are together again. Their families still think them useless; they failed at school, have found no work, and nobody in the neighbourhood trusts them. This time they take on a venture. The plan looks large and each of the four says he will do his part. Nothing, as expected, goes right. The families are involved throughout; every decision is argued about at home and the four have to manage the job and the family at once. Savin Sa directs. Hashir, Alan Bin Siraj, Ajin Joy and Vinayak V are in the cast. It is in Malayalam. The film is a sequel; the first had been an unexpected commercial success in Malayalam cinema and the same cast returned. The humour is about daily life; exam results, family pressure and the necessity of finding work are taken up directly. Malayalam cinema came forward in this period with small budget comedies on realist ground, and this belongs to that line. Its best side is the fit among the four; the actors know each other and the improvised sections show. Its limit is structure; being a sequel, some of the jokes miss for a viewer who does not know the first film. It did good business. Who it is for: viewers who like Malayalam comedy and youth narratives. Who it is not for: the humour is local, the plot weak, and it requires knowing the first film.
