Vadakkupatti Ramasamy

Karthik Yogi's 2024 Tamil film follows Ramasamy, who lives off the beliefs of his village. He takes a share of the offerings around the temple, and when the temple is temporarily closed his income stops. The premise rests on a wager. Ramasamy accepts a challenge staked on getting the temple reopened; the narrative keeps this as comedy while taking up the relation between belief and interest. Santhanam leads and carries the comic line. The narrative shows village life in detail; the tone is light and there is no violence. The close comes close to delivering a lesson. Who it's for: those who like Tamil village comedy. Who it's not for: viewers expecting sharp satire; the film settles in a conciliatory place at the end.
